Research tells us that YES, therapy works!

Sometimes people will ask WHAT makes therapy work...is it the number of years in practice, is it the KIND of therapy, or the TYPE of training. As strange as it may sound...it is none of these!

Don't get us wrong, having a trained, licensed professional is very important to reaching your goals.

However, the most important quality that will determine if therapy will "work" for you...whether or not you like your therapist. I'm serious.

Likability out-ranks all other qualities.

What is important to us is that you have a chance to connect with your therapist and see if you just like her. When you feel like your therapist "gets" you then the work starts to flow and you can really get some traction moving to where you want to be.

Contact Our Office

Give us a call...and see if one of our therapists would be a good fit for you!

Really, call us right now (720) 457-3342, we almost always answer the phone...and if we miss the call, we will get back to you usually within an hour or two. It's because we like people...and we like what we do.

What a great question!

People ask us this all of the time...and not surprisingly, it is not a very straightforward answer. It's a bit like asking your personal trainer, "How long will it take for me to lose 20 pounds?"

Couples Counseling

It totally depends on so many factors. Your motivation...if you are in couples counseling...your partner's motivation, what your goals are, if you do your *homework* outside of your meetings with your therapist, etc.

What helps your efficiency is getting clear on your goals -- this is a huge part of your therapist's job...to help you get clear on your goals. And if there are two of you in the session, then helping both of you get clear on what you are working towards.

We can tell you, that it is our job to work ourselves out of a job. Really, it is!

That means, we want you to succeed! We want this to be an efficient process for all of our clients. If you want it to be more efficient, ask your therapist what you can do to help things move along faster...I bet she might have a suggestion.

couples therapy for one | cherry creek counseling | cherry creek coGreat question!

First of all, well done you for having the courage to seek support for your relationship. It can be tough to show up alone.

Secondly, we understand that every marriage is made up of 2 moving parts: you and your partner. A bit like a yin and yang. When one partner starts to change, the other partner will behave differently...because half of the system started to shift.

There is no magic pill here, but we can tell you that this does work to create new, different and sometimes unexpected results at home.

Finally, your therapist's job is to help you understand your role in your relationship, your yin to his yang, as it were. Her job is not to tell you that he is bad, wrong, or broken -- or whether or not you should leave him...but rather, she will hold up a mirror for you so that you can see what you are saying, thinking, or doing that is contributing to a relationship that feels stuck or broken. This process helps to create a clear map or guide as to how to best move forward.

If your partner is not yet interested in counseling, that's ok! You can still come into our counseling office for guidance and support. At our therapy office, we offer Couples Therapy for One specifically for those interested in independent relationship counseling in Denver and Cherry Creek.

Couples Therapy for One

Many of our clients have found relationship relief by coming in, meeting with a counselor, and starting the healing process on their own. There is no shame in attending Couples Therapy for One.

Commonly, one party is interested in couples counseling while the other person is hesitant. Often, however, when one party begins attending couples counseling, the other party soon develops an interest.

If your partner is hesitant about participating in couples therapy, we recommend remaining calm and avoiding getting upset. Until your partner is ready to meet, you can still work with your therapist, build trust, and start sorting out some of the more significant issues in your relationship.

The purpose of marriage varies for each person and couple. Everyone has different core values, ideals, and life goals, and so does every couple.

For many couples, marriage is a commitment to share their lives––a celebration of companionship and love. Marriage also legally binds you to another person and provides certain legal protections. Marriage has many different aspects, from values, culture, and intimacy to finances and egalitarian responsibilities. And again, each of these varies depending on the unique couple.

Our counselors at the Counseling Center of Cherry Creek welcome clients of all ages and stages of marriage. Whether you are engaged, newlyweds, or have been married for several years, we are here to guide and support you in your relationship. Our ultimate goal is to help you discover or attain your goal as a couple, including strengthening the relationship, healing from past hurts, recommitting yourselves to one another, and much more.

Online Therapy

No, not at all. It is illegal unless you give us written consent, but we don’t do that anyway.

We have a paperless system accessible via our online portal. Click here to get started.  There is no need for printing hard copies of these documents anymore, and they are available electronically or in paper on request.

Stay or Go Counseling in Denver, CO

If you are doing Stay or Go Counseling with one of our certified therapists, then this process typically takes 5-7 sessions. However, this depends on what you and your partner bring into our work together. Unlike marriage counseling, Stay or Go Counseling is a process designed to help people untangle where they are now in a relationship, where they want to go, and what will be required if they decide to venture there.

Once you and your partner have achieved some clarity, couples counseling might be warranted to address where you were stuck before coming in. In most cases, your counselor can also continue working with you on marriage counseling!

We understand that technical problems can occur during online therapy sessions. We will prorate the session after the first 15 minutes, and if the session ends early due to technical difficulties before the first 15 minutes, we will not charge you.

How We Handle Audio and Video Difficulties

If the audio or video fails in the middle of your session, your therapist will call you back on the same platform. We will try to resume at least two more times, and if it doesn’t work, we will call you on the phone to troubleshoot the situation or reschedule.

If the audio fails to work, but we can still use the video, we can speak with each other on the phone for the audio.
